ويختتم بالقول: إذا كان هناك وصف واحد ملائم لـ "الصراع الفكري في الأدب السوري"، فهو هذا: "إنه جوهرة أدب الحياة".

الصراع الفكري في الأدب السوري هو دراسة منهجية للأدب العربي بشكل عام، وللأدب السوري بشكل خاص. كُتبت الدراسة في ثمانية أجزاء نصف شهرية نُشرت في صحيفة "الزوبعة" التي تصدر في الأرجنتين، من 15 أغسطس 1942 وحتى 1 ديسمبر 1942. نُشرت الطبعة الأولى من الكتاب في بوينس آيرس في ديسمبر 1942، بعد أسبوعين من نشر الجزء الأخير، وأُعيدت طباعته في لبنان في يونيو 1947، بعد حوالي ثلاثة أشهر من عودة أنطون سعاده من المنفى.
يمثل "الصراع الفكري في الأدب السوري" الذروة في انشغال طويل وعميق بحالة الأدب السوري، التي لطالما أقلقت سعاده. ولكن تعقيدات السياسة والحياة بشكل عام منعته من معالجتها في وقت سابق..

The book consists of 173 pages in small format and includes, in addition to the translated chapters, an introduction by the translator, in which he states:
The Intellectual Struggle in Syrian Literature is more than just a book: it is a beautiful piece of literary work. Its originality and ongoing significance lie not only in the depth and complexity of its literary criticism but also in the philosophical intent and new theory of literature it purports to offer.
He concludes: If there is a single fitting description of Intellectual Struggle in Syrian Literature it is this: “the jewel of the literature of life”.
The Intellectual Struggle in Syrian Literature is a systematic study of Arabic literature in general and Syrian literature in particular. Written in eight fortnightly instalments in the Argentine-based al-Zawba’a newspaper from 15 August 1942 until 1 December 1942, the book was first published in Buenos Aires in December 1942, two weeks after the last instalment was published, and reprinted in the Lebanon in June 1947, about three months after Sa’adeh return from exile.
The Intellectual struggle in Syrian Literature represents the crowning point of a long and deep concern for the state of Syrian literature that had long been troubling Sa’adeh but which the complexities of politics and life, in general, had prevented him from addressing.
